A New Era of Riders

Mr. Bike and Ski has been part of Escanaba’s outdoor story since 1985 — but this chapter feels different. It’s smaller, sharper, and built with more intention.

We’re Heidi and Adam Haeusler — partners in life, work, and the slow process of building something that lasts. Over the past five years, we’ve carried this shop through some of its hardest retail seasons and, in the process, made it our own: a place built on service, connection, and the belief that people are better humans when they spend time outside.

Our Story

Adam grew up in Bark River and first worked at Mr. Bike and Ski more than twenty years ago. After a decade out west running bike shops and guiding, he came home with a lifetime of hands-on experience and a deep respect for how small shops keep communities moving. Today, he manages the day-to-day — from fittings and repairs to helping riders and skiers find gear that feels just right.

Heidi’s work stretches beyond the shop. She works in the travel and tourism industry, helping tour operators become more visible and better understood — the right message, at the right time, for the right people. That perspective shapes how Mr. Bike and Ski connects with the wider outdoor community and tells its story.

Together, we share ownership equally — of the business and the life it supports.

From Then to Now

Mr. Bike and Ski began in 1985 as a small, family-run store dedicated to bikes, skis, and service. That spirit still guides us, but we’ve redefined it for a new era.

Our move to 1st Avenue North marked more than a new address — it was a reset. A simpler, right-sized space that lets us focus on what matters most: good gear, honest work, and genuine connection.

Generations of riders have come through these doors — and now, a new era of riders is shaping what comes next.

What You’ll Find Here

We sell bikes, skis, and gear that get people outside — but what keeps people coming back is how they’re treated when they walk through the door.

Service is at the forefront of everything we do. The desire to be taken care of never goes away, and that’s what local shops like ours are built on — attention, honesty, and the kind of feel-good service you only get when you shop small.

This is a place built on movement and belonging. Whether you stop in for a tune, a trail tip, or a little inspiration to get outside again — you’re part of the story that keeps this shop alive.

A Note From Us

Running this business has been one of the biggest privileges — and hardest challenges — of our lives.
Over the past five years, we’ve worked to honor the history here while also finding new ways to keep it moving forward in a time when small, independent retail looks different than it used to.

Some of what we’ve tried has worked. Some hasn’t. That’s part of doing business — and part of being willing to evolve rather than stand still.

For us, it’s always been about being transparent about what it really takes to keep a local shop going and why your support matters. Ultimately, every decision comes down to doing what feels right for this place and the people who count on it.

Thanks for being here. Thanks for shopping local. Thanks for giving us the chance to keep showing up.
